The 2016 Euro-American Family Retreat is now in the history books and it has been a great retreat. Seth McDowell from the Shawnee Church of Christ, TX has presented some insightful thoughts on "First Things First" from the Gospel of Matthew. There are so many religious things we can do that sometimes we lose sight of those principles that are a priority in our spiritual journey with Jesus. Putting our relationships before worship, pursuing God's kingdom before our will, dealing with our sin before examining our brother or sister, and establishing our heart are all things Jesus says we need to remain focused upon. I have met some wonderful missionary and military families during the past four days. I'm especially encouraged to have met soldiers from Brussels and Hohenfels, Germany; and two Airman families from Aviano Air Base, Italy. It was uplifting to continue to see military families participating in this spiritual feast.
As anyone associated with the military understands, holidays can become very difficult when your family is separated either temporarily or permanently. Even when core families are together, they can be separated by great distances from extended families and loved ones. Make sure that you let those that you love know that you care.
When my husband first joined the military in 1973, there was no internet to sends cards, texts or the ability to Skype. Sometimes that smallest gesture makes that biggest difference in a relationship and keeps a family strong.
So to those of you that are deployed mothers, mothers of servicemen, military grandmothers and military mothers, Happy Mother's Day. May God bless you and your family.
Plans are in the works for us to attend the annual Euro-American Christian Retreat at Rothenburg ob der Tauber for November 2016. This fellowship gathering has long been a highlight for military Christians and European missionary families from throughout Europe. More information will be posted as plans develop.
